The Perks of exploring the City
I’m such a stickler for an good old-fashioned saying. So believe me when I say that you don’t need to look further than in your own back yard for a new experience.
Introducing… City Perk Café located on 70 Fox St, Johannesburg. This is a rather redundant statement to make considering the fact that this establishment has been in existence for more than 4 years now. I myself was surprised to have casually stumbled upon City Perk, considering that I’ve now been working in Johannesburg CBD for 5 years now.
City Perk was founded by Alexi and Jacqui who just happen to be the most hospitable hosts I’ve probably had the pleasure of engaging with- in my very limited experience of blogging hahaha…). The café hosts an array of visually stimulating artwork from local creatives and artists alike, the staff are at the helm of superb client service and the extensive menu offering will leave you with no other option than to visit the café time and time again. This was my very first visit, but I can guarantee that I will frequent 70 Fox Street in the near future.
I decided to introduce a Lifestyle section of my blog to expand and grow the vocabulary on this platform. This was hands down the best place to begin this journey. Below I’ve included a few snaps of my experience of no less than 3 hours.
Uhm, yes of course we are going to start with the food… As mentioned earlier, the menu of City Perk is something to appreciate. It is incredibly detailed and unique, you will most likely ask to glance at it every now then- to make sure you haven’t missed anything… which was exactly what happened to me.
Now for anyone who knows me personally, I’m no salad-sampling-dude. But this Chicken and Bacon Caesar Salad with their homemade dressing was fire!!!
The café is also inherently charming, both inside and out. The scene is literally set up for the everyday businessman/woman for their usual business/lunch meetings and also for that one hipster friend everyone has who insists on speaking in quotes and who constantly preaches about ‘letting go of earthly things’, but adversely has an unusual addiction to Fortnite… or is that just me??
There are an array of nuances which speak to the diverse clientele the café services.
And if that wasn’t enough, the owners also host a variety of artists to come and share their work with the locals. This is one of the many ways they’re uplifting creatives and artists alike and providing a tailor-made experience for their clientele in the process.
Needless to say, I had quite the experience visiting City Perk Café, an experience which has made a lasting impression on me and quite frankly will be the new standard I will measure other cafés and restaurants against.
Special Thanks:
Of course this experience would not have been possible without the courtesy and hospitality of Alexi and Jacqui. My team and I can honestly testify the stellar, personalised service we received. This will not be the last time you see us.
